Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are accused of downplaying their involvement in the steakhouse case. – In an ongoing trademark infringement action, 1587 Sneakers accuses Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of minimizing their role in the Kansas City steakhouse 1587 Prime.
On July 3, Mahomes and Kelce’s attorneys asked to have all allegations against them dismissed with prejudice, according to court documents that Sortea Sports was able to get.
Despite being “the generative force from which the infringing mark derives its entire identity and market appeal,” 1587 Sneakers accused the Kansas City Chiefs players of attempting to disassociate themselves from the eatery in the midst of the litigation in an August 4 objection to that motion.According to the complaint, “Defendants Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes seek dismissal by recasting themselves as two remote celebrities who are merely promotional ‘pretty faces’ of the alleged infringing enterprise with no New York ties.
“The evidence indicates otherwise.Both defendants actively participated in the “moving forces” of the at-issue mark as “1587” was authorized and created from their individual football jersey numbers, 15 and 87, as adequately claimed in the operative complaint.
Mahomes’ (15) and Kelce’s (87) jersey numbers inspired the name of 1587 Prime, which debuted on September 17, 2025. According to the restaurant’s official website, it was “co-founded by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in partnership with Noble 33.”
However, Mahomes and Kelce have argued that they have no authority over the eatery or connections to New York, the location of the complaint brought by 1587 Sneakers.
In the meantime, according to 1587 Sneakers’ original lawsuit, the business started selling its goods on April 13, 2023. Therefore, even tho the business didn’t apply for the “1587” trademark until October 2025, they contend that they should have first use in this instance. According to ESPN, the trademark falls under the clothes category and the application is currently being reviewed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
In contrast, the “1587 Prime” trademark, which belongs to the bar and restaurant category, was filed in December 2023.
1587 Sneakers is suing to have the restaurant stop using the brand, cease selling products bearing the name, and get punitive damages. The case is still pending.
