Finally, WhatsApp Web allows your laptop to answer calls rather than making you return to your phone. – I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve had to clumsily pick up my phone in the middle of a task to answer a WhatsApp call that my laptop was unable to handle on the online version. The update from today permanently modifies that.
What is going to be released today, then?
Voice and video calling are now available on WhatsApp Web, enabling group and one-on-one chats without the need to download any apps (as was previously the case). It has been undergoing testing for several months. Back in June, group conversations were added to the functionality. In order to reach every user, it is currently expanding widely.
Web calls provide screen sharing, replies, and a dedicated Calls page that pulls in your whole call history and favorites, just like mobile calls do.
Like WhatsApp everywhere else, every call remains end-to-end encrypted and has no time restrictions or fees.
What about the additional features that WhatsApp mentioned?
Here, Call Transfer stands out. It allows you to transfer a live call between your desktop or web application and your phone without having to end or resume the call. If you initiate a call while on the go, this functionality can be useful. You can use a larger screen after you get home.
By delaying participants until they are approved before allowing them in, the Waiting Room provides hosts control over who joins a call link. QuickHD, another new feature, accelerates the video’s transition to full HD at the beginning of a call.
Then, a new toggle called “Noise Suppression” eliminates background noise so that your voice may be heard clearly. All of the new features expand upon more recent ones, such as the iPhone’s Wide Spectrum audio controls and Voice Isolation.
It appears to me that WhatsApp is now giving call quality serious consideration. Zoom and Google Meet have long been at ease in browsers, so WhatsApp’s reducing this gap feels more than revolutionary, but it’s still a great development.
