Am I sad that the Moto G Stylus 5G 2025 isn’t on sale? Yes, yes, I am. That phone offers improved performance and includes a pen for good measure. But the Moto G Power 2025 (7/10, WIRED Recommends) is still a terrific choice, especially for a modest $200. It features this wonderful green vegan leather texture on the back that boosts its looks, along with a huge 6.8-inch 120-Hz screen.
Looks aside, there are three key reasons to buy this phone. First, it has a headphone jack. If you like plugging your headphones in, whether you’re riding a trend or swear by audio fidelity, you’ll appreciate the jack. Second, there’s a microSD card slot. That implies you can expand the built-in 128 GB up to 1 terabyte if you require the space. These two functionalities are all but gone on midrange and high-end smartphones today, making the Moto G Power extremely special. Who is under the The Moto G Power 5G Is Down to Just $200 Right Now
The third reason isn’t necessarily a must-have but a convenience: wireless charging. It’s rare to see wireless charging in sub-$400 smartphones, so it’s good to be able to put the phone on a wireless charger instead of digging for a USB-C cord. The 5,000-mAh battery inside can extend to two days with ordinary use, and the dual-camera system can snap some nice images. Performance isn’t very impressive. It’ll be able to handle the normal apps and lightweight mobile games, but you will witness minor stutters here and there, and app starts may take an extra beat. It’s not frustratingly slow, just noticeable.
The other thing to know is that this phone will only receive one more Android operating system update to Android 17 (it’s presently getting Android 16), though it will get security patches for a little more than two years. This isn’t a phone that will last years and years. But if you need a phone now and your budget is low (or you just need a second burner phone), it’s hard to go wrong here.
