Reports say ICE will launch big Chicago operations next week – According to a number of news outlets, the administration of President Trump is reportedly making preparations for an immigration crackdown in the city of Chicago. CNN and The New York Times both claimed on August 28 that they had received information from unidentified administration insiders that suggested a significant immigration enforcement operation may arrive in the city as soon as the next week. Following the criticism that President Trump received earlier this month in Washington, DC, Illinois Governor J.B.
Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, both of whom are Democrats, have voiced their opposition to President Trump’s intention to bring the National Guard inside Chicago’s city limits.
It is possible that the operation in Chicago will involve as many as two hundred personnel from the Department of Homeland Security, armored vehicles, and the utilization of a naval installation located somewhere outside of the city as a staging place.
The Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not provide a clear response to the request for comment that USA TODAY made regarding an operation that was going to take place in Chicago. “President Trump has been clear: we are going to make our streets and cities safe again,” according to the official statement.
