That seems like a creative victory, and it really is in many respects. However, there’s a catch. Writers, illustrators, concept creators, and junior programmers attempting to get into the gaming industry are finding it more difficult as generative AI techniques enable solo devs and tiny firms to accomplish more with less personnel.

Developers in Turkey are increasingly embracing AI tools to complete jobs that formerly required a far larger team, according to a recent analysis by Rest of World. One developer, Emirhan Gül, claimed that while working in a small team, tools like Claude Code helped him handle coding, game design, social media, and other daily tasks.
Another independent developer, Ender Tınkır, talked about creating games with far less conventional programming or design support by combining Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI Codex, and Claude Cowork. For him, AI did more than just expedite the process. It made it easier to turn an idea into a playable product.

For independent game developers, that is a significant change. These days, a tiny studio doesn’t need to raise the kind of budget that would have been required only a few years ago in order to prototype more quickly, explore more freely, and possibly release a game. In actuality, a plethora of new games are being released thanks to AI and “vibe coding,” albeit this does not necessarily imply that these games are superior or more popular.

It makes things particularly difficult for junior developers. In the past, an entry-level position allowed a writer, programmer, or artist to gain experience, develop a portfolio, and progressively advance into more senior positions. The sector runs the risk of shutting off the very pipeline that generates the experienced talent of the future if those jobs go. It is also taking place in the gaming business, which is already coping with a lot of employment insecurity and layoffs.
